Azura recently joined the Cohabys – Adera team for Créocéan to conduct marine mammal surveys off French Guiana prior to and during oil and gas drilling operations.
Two types of surveys are being conducted. The large-scale survey aims to collect data on the presence and distribution of marine mammals, as well as sea turtles and seabirds, up to 40 km around the drill site.
During the small-scale survey, scientists will visually monitor for marine mammals and sea turtles up to 4 km around the drill site during drilling operations. Scientists will utilize a passive acoustic monitoring system to acoustically monitor for marine mammals in real-time.
