Howdy! My name is Vanessa Zemke, and I interned this spring and summer with Azura Consulting, LLC. I am originally from Virginia and attended the University of Delaware to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Science. During this program, I fell in love with marine mammals and sea turtles and desired to protect and conserve them.
This desire led me to pursue a Master of Public Service and Administration degree at Texas A&M University’s Bush School of Government and Public Service. Within this program, I am learning about management and public policy processes. I applied my knowledge in both science and management to my internship with Azura.
The tasks I completed with Azura were unique and gave me a very holistic experience of working within a consulting company. My projects included reviewing journal articles, collecting data, updating bibliographic databases, formatting and editing proposals and other documents, and creating social media posts for engagement. In addition, I underwent training in federal government proposal preparation, Endnote bibliographic software, and Teamwork project management software.
This internship was conducted remotely; I strategically planned out my days to complete tasks efficiently and switch between different tasks easily. I also utilized my critical thinking skills to work through my projects and solve any problems that arose. Through this experience, I was able to broaden my skill set in becoming increasingly adaptive, resourceful, efficient, and able to problem solve.
I am very grateful for the opportunity to intern with Azura and expand both my expertise and skill set. It was an enriching experience, and I look forward to applying my newly learned skills to my future career.
